Do You Need a Clarity Break™?

Traction Leadership Teams

Most leadership teams are overwhelmed, tired and too busy just keeping up with their day to day routines to think about the future. Leaders who don’t take time to think about the business outside of busy work and meetings have a difficult time solving problems and aren’t able to lead as well as others who take a “time out” on a regular basis. As business coaches, or EOS Implementers™ teach, if you aren’t taking a regular Clarity Break™, you’ll have difficult envisioning the future and your leadership skills will be limited.

Throughout time, great leaders have often shared the same habit of taking quiet time, or a Clarity Break, to think about the business. Taking a Clarity Break keeps you confident and helps you face problems head-on with positive momentum. By getting away from the office and working on yourself and the business, leaders and leadership teams can gain traction, rising above feelings of frustration and fear in order to be more effective leaders. When you return, you’ll be in the right leadership frame of mind.

Clarity breaks are all about what works best for you. Go to a place outside of the office where your thoughts will be uninterrupted. Some leaders do this on a weekly or even daily basis, while others prefer to schedule time on a monthly basis. No matter you choose to do, keep it consistent – and don’t use the time to catch up on busy work. Instead, reflect on the business by reviewing your Vision/Traction Organizer™ (V/TO™), reviewing upcoming goals, reading, thinking strategically or reviewing the EOS Model. When you are done, you’ll be prepared to offer clear leadership to your people and you’ll be setting a positive example as well. By taking a time out for yourself, you’ll a more confident, focused leader.
